Why We Fight…(continued)

Matthew Shepard would have been thirty years old today.

  1. Robert Ruiz Says:

i saw the movie it touched me i just cant understand how cruel life could be with a person who does no harm to anyone. im proud of mathew and his family for not giving up, boy i know for sure that hes very proud from where hes at. dont give up on the fight

  2. christina Says:

what happened to matthew was mean and it made no sense at all to me. his sexuality is his business and he harmed no one. to the people who murdered matthew may god have mercy on your soul for what you did it was a cruel and cold blooded act you don’t deserve to have your life if matthew dosen’t have his. i saw the movie and i was heartbroken. to the parents my heart goes out for u guys and continue to fight for justice. rest in peace matthew love you

  3. Sylvia Antunez Says:

I am watching the “Laramie Project” right now. I haven’t cried in such a long time. I was raised in the El Paso/Juarez border area were gender hate crimes have taken the lives of so many females for years and to date those who have the power to do something are desensithized, or to put it mildly, just plain do not care – it’s too, big of a burden to care.

I am a victime of such crimes and one of the lucky ones – I think – I am alive. My Mother isn’t alive. And neither are the daughters, sisters, mothers, and grandmothers of so many. I had to leave that place for good as I am a mother now and married and divorced a very hateful male. One day I will make things right for my girl, but for now I have to make myself stronger than ever to set out and do the things I was meant to do for me, for my girl, to let those who hate know they did not win, and I will never let them win – ever.

This I know now in my heart. “Leave a place better than you found it.”

  4. Blessing Boamah Says:

what happened to matthew is unacceptable! why people are so cruel and heartless the world may never know! Here is a boy that is shunned for being different how sad! he harmed no one what an innocent sweet, cute boy!

  5. C.B. Duke Says:

I wish to tell the parents of Matthew Shepard, not everyone in ,North Carolina, agrees with the alleged “misinformed” Congresswoman Virginia Foxx when she stated in her Washington speech that Matthew Shepards death was just a robbery, and, making it a hate crime a hoax.
Here we are in 2009 and the conservative far right would like to allegedly change the truth on yet another part of what is forever uncomfortable history.
I am an American who loves this country but if we allow the truth of such events to be allegedly nullified,we as a nation will fail to learn, grow, and progress.
Congresswoman Virginia Foxx has a doctorate in education and graduate degrees from the University of North Carolina. It is my opinion,This is not someone who was just allegedly “misinformed”.
I am sure her think tank friends at the conservative Heritage Foundation can allegedly do better then that.
I and the American people will not allow any alleged attempt to change the truth on Matthew Shepards death. It was and is a hate crime.
A hate crime, is a hate crime, is a hate crime!
I am so sorry that Matthews mom had to hear Virginia Foxx that day in Washington. I understand Virginia Foxx sent a letter of apology to Matthew’s mom.

We the people that make this wonderful Nation must not allow Matthew’s murder to become nothing more then an obscure footnote. He was brutally beaten because he was gay. He was killed because he was gay. It was and is a hate crime Virginia. Bless your little heart!
    Now let me add,
A big hug for Matthew’s parents from North Carolina.
