My copy of <em>The Columbia Reader<\/em> calls it a veritable encyclopedia of homophobia. (&#8220;The book draws heavily on the theories of Irving Bieber and other psychiatrists of the mothers-did-it school&#8230;&#8221;) I did not know about this book, and was just scanning the Reader for anything around the time of Midge Dector&#8217;s &#8220;The Boys on the Beach&#8221; (which I&#8217;ve already quoted once in <a href=\"https:\/\/brucegarrett.com\/acos\/acos-main.htm\"><em>A Coming Out Story<\/em><\/a>) when I found the reference.<\/p>\n<p>I think I have everything I need for the Mirror Episode, but it&#8217;s not too late to add some more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This came in the mail today&#8230; &nbsp; Growing Up Straight: What Every Thoughtful Parent Should Know about Homosexuality, by Peter and Barbara Wyden (January 1969).
