Bush Uses Homeland Security Bill To Scuttle Drug Company Lawsuits

A line item was slipped into the Homeland Security Agency bill at the last minute, effectively nullifying lawsuits brought against Eli Lilly Company, by parents who believe their children's autism was caused by the company's mercury based vaccine preservative. An estimated 150 lawsuits are now likely to be thrown out of court.

Democrats charge that the provision represented payback by the White House, for the industry's huge financial support during the midterm elections. Nearly all money's donated by the industry, went to support republican candidates.

White House budget director Mitchell E. Daniels Jr., is a former Lilly executive.
